Football is a major pastime in the United States. It goes from Pop Warner football for little kids to playing High School Football. Then if you’re lucky you move on to play in college. For those with extreme talent will be able to play in the NFL.
One of the main goals in football for the two teams is to receive a first down. The offense must gain 10 yards within a series of four plays. It is not always easy to get the first down. If you do not get the first down you have to give the ball up to the other team. Now not only is not easy for the players to get the first down it is also very hard at times for the referee to measure whether or not the ball crossed the line. In America today we have a lot of technology to help out with the problem but it is still hard at times. It is very hard for the viewers who are watching it on television because they cannot see whether the ball is before the line, on the line, or past the line.
You also have people working the sticks on the sideline to also give better views on the first down. If the refs don’t have a good view or they aren’t sure what to call they call for the sticks. That will tell you almost every time whether the team receives a first down or not. First downs determine how the game goes. Normally whoever has the more first downs has a better chance of winning the game!

Ryan,
I am really glad you made it. . . but I must admit I am bummed that you chose a topic you obviously know everything about.
The assignment alluded to having to read a lot of text in college in short periods of time, and I can promise you that you won't be reading about information you know most of the time.
But, working with what you wrote:
--I'm glad you started with a line that suggests you "get" the theory behind opening an essay or piece of writing with something other than your thesis. That's GREAT news.
--The fourth sentence, "For. . .", what's the purpose of the word "for?" It actually makes it a fragment, because it isn't a complete thought.
-- I don't quite understand why you mention technology since this is one component of the game that isn't reviewable.
--last line--you want "most" not more. Only use "more" when you are comparing TWO things.
Also, in order to recieve full credit on these, in addition to writing the response, you must also comment on two other students' blogs. See some of the others' comments to see how they write specific and constructive comments. On the whole, your two comments should total at least fifty words. Again, the key is specific--what, SPECIFICALLY did you like or not like about it? What didn't make sense? What could have been a little better.
When you get more critical about others (positive and/or negative), you will become that way with your writing, too, and you find you WANT other people's feedback.
