Three Keys to Writing Well

I believe writing is the best tool in getting an opinion across. I love to write. I know I am not the greatest writer and there is much room for improvement, but i truly love to do it. I believe one of my writing strengths is getting to the point without over doing it. The best writing is done without extra words and unnecessary points. A weakness of mine however is remembering grammar rules.

To me, pieces that are written well must be descriptive, grammatically sound, and punctuated well. Description is what makes a piece worth reading. If the five senses are appealed in the writing, readers will be drawn to it. Reading is so intriguing because it makes people able to make up their own picture in their minds of what the story or setting is like. Description is what gives readers the opportunity to imagine.

Grammar can make a piece of writing enjoyable or unbearable. To many, there is nothing worse than reading an article, letter, or even story with poor grammar. Sounding educated makes readers want to keep reading. It also makes the readers more educated by reading a piece of writing that is written well.

Lastly, punctuation is something crucial in a piece of writing. It is very important to add in quotation marks, explanation points, and especially question marks. Asking a reader a question really makes them think, which makes them want to continue reading.

There is no perfect writer. Even the brilliant writers have room for improvement. Writing is not only a skill, but a gift. Being able to write is something rare, so take advantage of being able to learn and apply writing skills that will make you a better writer.

I agree with you Katelyn and believe that it is an insult to yourself if you turn in a paper with poor grammar. I believe that if you are going to put your name on something it should represent your best work.

Remembering grammar rules. . .as in capitalizing "I"??? ;-)

Writing talent is a gift, but it can be acheived through hard work. What happened to you in volleyball with passing works the same with just about everything else in life, and what you chose to do to improve your passing evidences your will to be excellent at anything you want!
